E=MC^2 was released as Mariah Carey's eleventh studio album. It was released in 2008, three years after the massively successful release of The Emancipation of Mimi. In fact, it acts like a sequel to that album, even resembling the title. In my opinion, the 'E' may stand for Emancipation as in Emancipation=Mariah Carey squared.
