Wannabe was released as the debut single from the Spice Girls, the female UK super group. No other group comes to mind from the UK that is female which comes close. Their male counterpart to me would be the Beatles. But they are a little too old fashioned for me. However the Spice girls reign from what is now referred to as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland whereas the Beatles were from England as the UK was not a common term back then.
