Got 'til It's gone was released as the first or lead international single from The Velvet Rope. The Velvet Rope was released as the sixth Studio album by Janet Jackson. It followed her best-selling Studio album in 1997; however her best-selling Studio album was released in 1993. The reference to 1997 was in regards to The Velvet Rope, that album was released in 1997.
