American life was released as the lead single from the album of the same name. That song was released in 2003 when the war on terror had just begun so instead of just letting the original Music video that Madonna filmed and released be banned and done away with, as she had done with the Music video for Erotica, for example. She decided to re-record the Music video and released a much tamer version. I actually prefer the more-tame version because it is more colorful in my opinion.
